My dog has a heart murmur and is breathing shallow and fast, why?

My dog was quiet, suddenly he started whining loudly. Then he started close mouth breathing shallow and rapidly, similar to a child’s breathing after crying. We’ve seen him reverse sneeze. Those are normally more deep breathes than this. P.S. he has cat 2 heart murmur. Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 17 lbs

Heart murmurs can progress to heart failure and some of the signs of that are coughing, breathing issues and exercise intolerance. The other thing is that he may have a collapsing trachea. I think your best option is to take him to your vet for an exam. They may want to take some x-rays to check the size of his heart, the quality of the lungs and the size of the trachea.
