My pet had a bump removed. Why do biopsy results take so long?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 3 months old | 4 lbs

She had a bump removed & i just paid for it to be sent off. They said they’ll send it off next week & we’ll get the results back in a couple of weeks. My mom took my money for me so I wasn’t there to ask questions. Why would it take that long? Is it probably because I live in a hardly known small town so it would have to be sent far?

Thanks for uisng Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! How far away you live from the laboratory could be a reason but usually once it arrives to the laboratory it takes an average of 5-7 days. You can always have your veterinarian expedite it. Hoping for something benign! Have a good day!!!
