My dog's ears are still itching after ear mite medicine. What to do?

What can I do for my dog if he is constantly itching his ears? I am using over-the-counter ear mites treatment medicine for his ears for the past 3 days. But he is still itching his ears extremely bad. Is there any other home remedies I can use to help him relieve his itchy ears?

Ear infections in dogs can be caused by bacteria or yeast in addition to ear mites, so it may be Max has itchy ears due to those causes and not ear mites. There are no OTC treatments for ear infections caused by bacteria or yeast in dogs, he needs to see a vet for this problem. The vet can take an ear swab and examine the debris from his ear under a microscope to diagnose what is causing his itchy ears. Once a diagnosis is made, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. I'd call the vet first thing in the morning to make an appointment for him. Best of luck.

Poor Max! It's possible the infection has spread but it could be unrelated. If you have any routine ear cleaner, you can clean out the right ear every day to see if this helps. Have him examined as soon as your vet opens again. My dog what diagnosed with an ear infections with Malassezia and coco bacterias, the vet prescribed me Otomax but after treatment we dont see any difference because she still with the same itching and scratching. Any other solution?
The main reason infections do not clear is they are not treated for long enough or it may have not been the best medicine to treat it due to resistance. Ideally she needs to be rechecked to see if a culture is needed or oral medicine help. You can try to get an ear cleaner to help keep it clean. IF the ear persistently itch then you may want to consider a food allergy

It sounds like Max has an ear infection. He will need to see a vet in order for it to be treated, as it can't be treated at home. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria, and in order for it to be treated correctly, the underlying cause has to be diagnosed. The vet can diagnose what is causing the ear infection, and can prescribe a treatment for it. It's very important to have any ear infections examined and treated promptly, as leaving them untreated can lead to hearing loss. I would take Max into the vet today for an exam.

I have a maltese/shih tzu puppy around 7 months old and i’m concerned that he might have an ear infection. he has an odor coming from his ears and has been rubbing his head on furniture in attempts to itch i’m assuming. i don’t have the funds to take
I recommend purchasing a dog ear cleaner at your pet store and cleaning the discharge from his ears. Put some cleaner on a cotton ball and massage the fluid into the ear canal. Rub it around to loosen the debris and then wipe it out. Take a dry cotton ball to remove any cleaner left in the ear. I clean ears daily to start, then as the discharge decreases then clean only when needed. If Maxo has ear mites or a severe yeast or bacterial ear infection this will help but specific prescription medication will be more effective. When you can take him in to your veterinarian for an ear exam. They will look at the ear discharge under the microscope to determine the cause of the problem. Then they can give him the right medication. Ear medication often contains a drug to stop the itching as well as something to cure the cause of the infection and that would be more effective than just cleaning his ears. Given that Winston has been struggling with these ear problems for a month, and the fact it is getting worse, he should see a vet as soon as possible. The vet can confirm he does have an ear infection, diagnose the cause, and prescribe a treatment for him. It's very important to have any ear problems examined and treated promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. I know it's after-hours, but I would find a vet who can see him right away.

I took my dog to get flea medication about 4 days ago and he is still itching. I believe he might have chiggers and he seems to be itching on only one side of his ear. What can I do to help without going to a vet?
Chiggers don't typically affect dogs. If your dog has not improved despite using flea medication, it could be that he has developed an allergy to fleas, and this will unfortunately require further treatment. There is nothing that you can use over-the-counter that will be effective, so I recommend you take him back to the vet and investigate other medications to help with the itchiness and allergic symptoms.

Ear mites are not a common cause of ear infection, the most common reasons for ear infections in dogs are yeast or bacteria. You have to take him to the vet in order to have the eras checked and treated with prescription antibiotic/antifungal eardrops, there are not over the counter drops that can solve this issue. The skin irritation is probably due to allergies, the vet will also give you medications to treat this problem.

I have an Australian cattle dog. He keeps it hing his right ear. I was wondering if there is an over tje counter medicine i can give him. I clean his ear out a lot and the qtip always comes out black.
If the q-tip comes out black, then there is an excess of ear wax and likely an infection. The infection can be caused by bacteria, yeast, or even mites. Ear infections in dogs are very itchy, and often require prescription medications to help clear them quickly and manage the itch. The first step in treating an ear infection is breaking down the large chunks of wax and getting them out of the way so that medications can get to the surface of the ear. I like ear cleaners like Dechra Malacetic Ultra Otic that are antibacterial and antifungal. If you clean Remington's ears twice a day for a couple of days and he is still itching, he will need to go to the vet for prescription medications.

I have been trying all kinds of ear mites medicine's and still won't go. Have done everything medicine wise and house. Help plz
First of all you need to make sure it is ear mites, this means taking neo to the vet, they will take a small swab from his ears and look under the microscope, if it is mites, it cannot be missed, but there are other things that could cause ear infections such as yeast and bacterias which are actually more common than ear mites. If it is earmites after all, i recommend either Revolution spot on or advocate spot on - both every 2 weeks (instead of 4) for 2 treatments, that should solve the ear mite problem.

Did you get a definite diagnosis of ear mites from a vet? It is actually very uncommon for dogs to have ear mites. Ear mites are usually diagnosed on stray dogs or dogs that are not well taken care of. My guess is that the ears are not getting better because your dog probably doesn't have ear mites. Ear mites are very easy to treat so if she did have mites I would have expected it to be better already as well. I suggest you get her to your vet so they can give you a definitive diagnosis as to what is actually causing the ear problem. That way you can get the appropriate treatment. Usually ear problems are due to a yeast infection, a bacterial infection or a combination of the two. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
