My kitten's eyes are gunky and he has flu-like symptoms. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

What's wrong with my kitten's eyes? Two days he was okay and then yesterday, his eyes became like this. Is it a normal eye infection? I think he has a flu too. I plan to go to the vet in two hours after breakfast because I'm worried.

What a cute baby!. It looks like your kitten has an upper respiratory disease. In Cats this often involves the eyes and nasal passages. So a discharge from the eyes and nose are typical for an upper respiratory problem. It usually starts out with sneezing and watery discharge, which then gets purulent and gunky because bacteria infect the weakened upper respiratory tract. Your kitten will have to be seen by your vet and will likely get prescription antibiotic liquid to fight the bacterial infection.
