My adopted dog is less attached. Is this a sign of comfort or bad?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 73 lbs

Okay so I adopted a dog from a kill shelter, he’s 2 years old Queensland heeler mixed with Siberian Husky... he was super attached to me since I got him and no matter what I did he was by my side, he would wake up out of his sleep multiple times just for me to go to the bathroom, when I sleep he sleeps outside my door, when I cook he falls asleep on the kitchen floor.... just today he stopped doing that. He stayed on the couch while I made my breakfast in the kitchen, is this bad?

Jack is so handsome! No, it's not bad that he stayed on the couch while you cooked breakfast. It shows he's becoming more comfortable in your home, and feeling safer. He's making your home his home as well. You want him to do this, feel safe in your home and make it his own. Enjoy your handsome boy!
