Why is my outdoor cat meowing and wanting indoors after kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 15 lbs

My cat turned 1 in November. She had 4 kittens about 3 weeks ago. We got them a cat house because she is an outdoor cat. She has been meowing a lot more and tries to run in the house and explore the closets or run downstairs. Not sure if this is normal or what she keeps meowing about?

She feels that her kittens may be safer in the house. She might want to move them from thee cat house. Can you bring the cat house close to the house or inside or on your porch (if you have one?)?. She will also now need to eat kitten food, which is more nutritious than her normal food.
