My dog ate a condiment packet and threw it up. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 8 months old | 45 lbs

My dog ate a condiment packet last night (about 16hrs ago)... I was unaware until he vomited up the packet a moment ago. He's 11yrs old, 45lb. He's had no problems drinking water today, had a normal bowel movement this morning, and seems fine. Is his vomiting up the packet a sign of concern?

Hi there! As long as Nova is acting normal, I wouldn't be concerned. It's likely that he threw up the packet because it couldn't be digested and was causing some irritation to his stomach. I'm not sure what specific kind of packet it was (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.?) but most common condiments are not toxic to dogs and should not cause any serious problems.
