My dog has diarrhea and is lethargic. What home remedies can I try?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 60 lbs

My dogs nose is dry and she seems lethargic. No puking, just some runny poo and she's not as perky as usual. She is 3. Is there anything I can do to help her feel better?

I'm sorry Sammy doesn't feel well! Don't worry about her nose being dry, that's not a sign of illness in dogs. A dog's nose can go from wet to dry simply by lying in the sun or next to a heat source. It sounds like she has some diarrhea, so I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
