What's the safest time for my indoor-outdoor cat to go outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 25 days old | 9 lbs

My cat is an indoor-outdoor spayed kitten. She always manages to come back alone with no trouble, or when called she also responds and comes running to me. She extremely loves the outdoors and spends 2 hours total everyday outside, and If not she starts crying and long meowing at the door. Anyway, i read somewhere that I should only let her out during the day. Why is that? Also, wouldnt it be more dangerous since there would be more activity going on outside?

The main reason for letting your kitty out only during the day is that cats tend to be run over in the early hours of the morning when people rush to work, and coyotes tend to eat cats at night (other predators too. Feed your cat in the morning and at night, associate a call with the feed ("come Eat" or something similar) and that way she will come in when it is time.
