Why is my dog whining a week after spay, but doesn't seem in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My Dog is a shih tzu she recently got spayed a week ago, she was fine all the time. Now, she starts to whine for no apparent reason but she does not look like she is in pain AT ALL. She can run around with her tail wagging but for some reason a sad whine just comes out from her mouth all the time. Even when we pat her she suddenly whines for no apparent reason. Some other actions seen were : scratching on the floor with her paws alot of times. Any idea what this could mean? Thanks :)

If she is whining then she is in pain even if you can’t see any external injury. Internal injuries or illness can manifest in many ways and because our dogs cannot talk to us all they can do whine or cry. I recommend you have your dog examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
