My dog nips people. Is it anxiety? How do I stop this behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

It's 7 months I have my first dog, Kyro. Supposedly half Pit & half Lab. I'm considering getting a muzzle because he nips at people. Just standing & talking to someone or just walking down the street, he nips at people? Kyro was supposedly abused & abandoned. Why does he nip at people & how do I stop this behavior? Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear about Kyro. This type of behavior is often due to anxiety. I would strongly recommend talking to your vet about anti-anxiety/ behavior modification medication which can make a huge difference! Often times, training is also needed in conjunction to medication. For safety, a basket muzzle while out and about is a great idea. Best of luck to you and Kyro.
