My dog escaped, has red eye & sore snout. Should I wait for vet or ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 6 years and 11 months old | 50 lbs

My dog got out of the yard, it took me about 10 minutes to track her down(she ran through the woods to a neighborhood behind my house). I got her home and she is eating, drinking, and playing normally. But that night I noticed she had a red spot on the white of her eye and that side of her snout seemed sore to the touch. I called my vet but they can't see her until Friday and it happened yesterday(Tuesday). Should I wait for the appointment on Friday or take her to an emergency vet now?

A picture would really help to determine more specifically if that red spot is normal or not. A trauma is possible, especially if she is painful and possibly the eye could have a small trauma (like a small ulcer).
