Is my puppy still at risk for parvo or distemper after exposure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 22 days old | 2 lbs

I fell in love with a 7-week-old puppy at a shelter. She was placed in the parvo ward due to direct exposure to a positive puppy. While in quarantine, she did not test positive or exhibit signs of the parvovirus. She is also under distemper-exposed status. No signs of Distemper and if the dog has no new or worsening symptoms for 14 days, then they are eligible for clearance. Is there still a risk of her still having Parvo or Distemper after only a few weeks of monitoring?

Generally symptoms resolve within 7-10days of exposure so it would be unlikely that any initial exposure would manifest later but it us possible he could become exposed beyond this. Regular, routine vaccination is vital to reduce the risk.of these serious diseases
