Dog keeps licking paw despite bandage. How can I make it stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 8 years and 2 months old | 43 lbs

My 8 year old, 43lbs, 3 legged nuetered make husky has been licking his foot and it seems so be causing issues. I have place antibiotic cream on it for 5 days and wrapped the foot so that he can’t get to it, now i have been wrapping it without the antibiotic cream so that it can dry. Last night he was able to get the bandage off and start licking it again. What else can we do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sam. He needs an E-collar to prevent him from licking his paw. If the lesion does not resolve, he will need to see his veterinarian. He could have a foreign object trapped under the skin in his paw. A piece of plant material is common. It could also be a small mass between his toes. I would leave the bandage off to let it dry out and see if it heals once he is no longer able to lick. I hope this information helps!
