Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Male | neutered | 56 lbs
I have a 4 year old English bulldog who has just started to wheeze or huff constantly. It’s has just graduated to being very frequent. What should I do? I am at a loss.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Abnormal breathing sounds can be a sign of many conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, among many other possibilities. Given his breed, this can also be brachycehalic syndrome though that typically presents in a different way. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good night!

Hello. To some degree, respiratory problems are definitely associated with this breed. Your best option is to seek another opinion from another veterinarian, preferably one in a specialty referral hospital, or if you are close to your state veterinary college see a specialist in internal medicine there. Some of the breathing problems can be addressed with strict weight control, consistent, but careful exercise, & possibly surgery. Jazzman is a beauty. I hope she always does well. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
