My dog is aggressive and protective after an attack. How can I help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 67 lbs

My dog was attacked by a boxer a couple months ago and was neutered about a month ago. I tried to take him back to dog parks but ever since the attack he has been more agressive with other dogs. He has also become very protective and possessive of me (his owner). He had be socialized up till the attack and never was agreesive with other dogs till after the attack. He didnt even get agressive and didnt fight back during the attack. I need advice on what to do to remove these behaviors.

I would recommend having a certified trainer work with you on these issues. They can come to your home and the dog park to help King adjust again to playing with dogs and not be so protective over you or aggressive with other animals. Your veterinarian should have recommendations for good trainers in the area. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
