My cat's chin and lip look infected. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered

My cats' name is Shadow and I noticed about a couple week ago that his chin and under lip looked like the pictures below. I have been keeping the area clean and have noticed a little bit of a difference. My question is, is there anything else I should be doing? Does he need to go to the vet? I'm just not sure what else to do to make sure he is okay. Thanks, Leslee

This looks like a mild skin infection. Your veterinarian will be able to perform a test (skin scrape and cytology) to determine what might be causing the infection and prescribe appropriate treatment.
