My dog had diarrhea, now not pooping. Is it blocked or just empty?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old

Both trick and panda had a bout of diahorrea it was watery been on plain white rice and scourban panda was pooping 2hourly but hasn't been for 19 hrs trick hasn't been for 12hrs has the rice and scourban caused them to block or have they just run out of poop since they went so much still drinking and eating

It's normal to see a period where a dog doesn't poop after having diarrhea for a bit, and both Trick and Panda should return to passing feces soon. It's good that they are both drinking and eating, so continue to keep an eye on them. If the diarrhea returns, bring them back into the vet. Best of luck!

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is unlikely a blockage since the vomiting has stopped. I suspect she hasn’t had a bowel movement because she was having diarrhea and not keeping any food down. It takes time for the body to make stool and if there wasn’t food in the body, then it won’t make stool. If she is eating and drinking and not vomiting anymore the poop will come. Kisses to Luna!

It is it uncommon for the stool to decrease after diarrhea when thinhs are returning to normal. If she is eating and drinking normally, acting the same, and not vomiting, I would continue to monitor her for further bowel movements and any straining. It is actually normal for them to have this pause in the regular bowel movement cycle after a bad case of diarrhea. With bad diarrhea they tend to empty their bowels and when it abruptly gets better it can take a couple of days before the gut is functioning regularly again. From what you described, it looks like the treatment is working well and he is likely on the mend. I hope that helps and all is well with Blitz.

My dog hasn't pooped in 2 days after having bloody diarrhea. Vet put him on antibiotics and he hasn't pooped since. I'm worried something is wrong.
Sometimes a dog will not "go" for 24 - 48 hours after anti-diarrheal medications have been started. Think of it like this: the system was essentially empty due to the [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/), and if the medication is effective, it will slow down the transit time of food through the GI tract and it will take a couple of days for him to actually need to poop again. As long as he is eating and drinking and feeling good, I would not immediately panic. I do often see dogs recovering from diarrhea go as much as 48 - 72 hours before having a bowel movement. If it's longer than this, or if he's not feeling well, get him rechecked immediately.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would agree with your veterinarian. He is likely going to go to the bathroom soon. Oftentimes when a dog is recovering from having diarrhea, they stop defecating for a a day or two. That is not a big concern. I am so glad to hear that Leo is getting better! Keep up the good work!

This can be normal if for example he had not eaten in several days before he restarted eating or he is or he was on medications for diarrhea which can then result in constipation in some cases. I recommend you add 1 teaspoon of canned pumpkin to his meals which can help with mild cases of constipation. Good luck and have a good one!

It's not uncommon for a dog not to poop for a day or two after they have had diarrhea. I wouldn't get too worried about Daphne just yet, and it's good that the diarrhea has stopped, she's well hydrated, and is eating. Just keep an eye on her, and if she doesn't poop in another 24-48 hours, then I would be worried and have her seen by vet. Hopefully, however, she will come right in another day :-)

Hey whats wrong? My dog got diarrhea last tuesday but its been 3 days since she never poop since i introduce her to the bland diet, rice with boiled chicken breast meat without skin.
If Agua had diarrhea and now has not defecated for a few days this can be completely normal. I would recommend if she is not straining or acting abnormally to monitor her. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sounds pretty normal for Scout. Sorry she had the gut upset recently. It's pretty common for the elimination cycle to get disrupted when something like this happens. If everything else is fine, you should just wait and she will most likely have a bowel movement soon. If she is showing signs of sickness and straining, you would want her to see her vet. They can evaluate her and advise any tests that might be needed to get her back on track. One thing to try at home is some canned pumpkin, not pumpkin filling for pies, just canned pumpkin. Maybe 1/2 - 1 teaspoon with her meals. It's high fiber, dogs like it, and it enhances elimination. I hope she has a bowel movement soon. Also make sure that she drinks plenty of fresh water.

After a period of profuse diarrhea, the whole gastrointestinal tract is generally pretty empty. It can take several days for normal stool to form and pass normally. I wouldn’t worry about the little pellets - Lilly’s intestines are still just trying to get back to normal. The pellets mean that her overall stool quality is improving. Constipation rarely occurs right after diarrhea. As long as she isn’t straining while trying to poop, and is otherwise eating, drinking, and acting normally, it sounds as though things are improving. If she hasn’t pooped by Thursday, it’s worth having her rechecked by your vet. I try to give dogs up to 5 days to form normal stool after profuse diarrhea. I hope that everything goes well for Lilly!

I am very sorry to hear that Lelani has been so unwell. It sounds as though she is on a great treatment Plan. It can be normal for some constipation to follow a gastrointestinal upset. I would continue to monitor her at home for a few hours. If by the end of the day she still hasn't had a bowel movement, or if she seems in pain or lethargic I Would take her back into the veterinarian. The concern is for a foegein body obstruction. But because she seems happy and active it is less likely.
