My puppy has a no-pull harness. When can we switch to a regular one?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Male | neutered | 9 months and 10 days old | 14.5 lbs

I just purchased the no pull harness for my puppy. How Long should I be using it for? Is there a point when I can transition to a regular harness?

I use a no pull harness when walking with a dog to keep them from pulling excessively. I would work with your dog to train him to walk by your side and not forge ahead. Once he knows that you can switch to a regular harness for your walks. Going to a group dog obedience class will help you train Korbyn to heel, sit, stay, down and come, and working with him in a group of other dogs and people makes the training more effective. A well trained dog is a great companion, and a pleasure to have around. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Korbyn/
