My dog is gulping, licking, and restless. Could it be acid reflux?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 15 lbs

My dog is gulpibg and licking and when that happens he doesnt want be near anyone and keeps running. It happened last week vet said he cant tell why. I gave him pepcid it went away after couple of days. He started to have it again now. He is restless and keeps having keeping hiccup gulping and licking and running. What could it be. Thanks

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sky may need some diagnostic testing to find out what the problem is. He may have an esophageal foreign body, ulcers of stomach or esophagus or just acid reflex. I would discuss with Sky's vet if radiographs might help determine what is wrong. If the pepcid seemed to help, it may be that he needs to be on an acid reducer long term. There are other medications that may used longer term than the pepcid. I hope Sky is back to normal soon.
