Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 5 lbs

Does my 5 year old Yorkie have mange or just dandruff? He does have hair loss around his muzzle at times and there are bird mites recently that I was told could cause the little patches of hair around nose to sometimes appear. He doesn’t scratch. On frontline gold. All down his back is black for and if you separate the far you can see big pieces of white that looks like dandruff and it’s not moving he is due for a groom. He’s very active he eats his Royal Canaan drinks his water plays

Mites, seborrhea disorders, Thyroid dysfunction, and skin infections are all potential causes of the symptoms you are seeing. A skin scrape can assist in finding the mites. Blood work may be recommended to check his thyroid function. Special shampoo may be recommended based on what is found on examination. Best of luck and I hope Niko improves soon.
