Why is my neutered cat urine marking indoors? What vaccines does he need?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old

Hello! Our cat which is neutered started urine marking indoors. Is there any way to stop that behaviour? Maybe some druggs or allowing him to go outside? If we let him go outside does he need any addition vaccination besides other than rabies? And is FVRCP VACCINE 1YR necessory for cats? Thank you so much for your answer!

I am sorry to hear about Finn. This can be a very frustrating issue. We do recommend the FVRCP vaccine yearly for cats. If your cat is going to go outdoors, a Feline Leukemia vaccine is also recommended yearly in addition to the Rabies vaccine. There can be different reasons for marking or urinating outside the litterbox, including medical problems like cystitis (bladder inflammation), aversion to the litterbox due to location/litter type/ cleanliness, and stress. You can read about this issue and possible solutions including different medications that are sometimes used at https://www.vin.com/veterinarypartner/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951508 and https://www.petcoach.co/article/inappropriate-elimination-urination-defecation-spraying-in/
