My puppy is sore after vaccination. Can I give him Tylenol for pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 4 month old puppy got his last vaccination today and he cries in pain if you even barely touch his side. I gave him Benedryl twice already because the vet said he could have a reaction to the vaccination. Is there anything else I can give him for the pain like Tylenol? He weighs 9 lbs

Please do not give your puppy tylenol or any other human OTC medicine, as it can cause irreversible liver and kidney damage and gastric bleeding. He is probably a bit sore from the injection. The Benadryl will not take this soreness, but will likely make him tired. Don;t touch him, just let him stay in his bed and sleep and by tomorrow the pain will likely be gone. If not, you can get some pain medicine from your vet.
