My dog has a facial abscess & ear infection. Can I avoid surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 8 years and 9 months old | 59 lbs

My dog has had an abscess on his face since Easter. He’s been at the vet twice now. They’re talking surgery now to remove his ear canal. Think the infections have combined forces. What else can I do?

You can ask your vet to try some other additional antibiotic courses before deciding to go through the surgery, some antibiotics i tend to use for this type of infection include: Marbocyl, Baytril, Metronidazole and TMS.
