My newborn kittens died after getting cold. Why did this happen?

my cat had 3 kittens 2 of them started getting cold and weak we tried to warm them up but they both died why?

I'm sorry you lost two of your kittens! Newborn kittens are very fragile, and unfortunately some of them don't make it. They can't regulate their body temperature, so if they are cold for too long, they pass away. They will also pass away if they don't eat enough, newborn kittens cannot survive long without food. I am so sorry you came home to two dead kittens! Newborn kittens are very fragile, and it could the one who was cold simply wasn't strong enough to make it. As for the one with the intestines out, it could be a birth defect causing the intestines to be outside the body. Without seeing them in person, I can't say for certain. I can say keep the father away from the kittens until they are older. Mother cats can be very protective of their kittens, and the father should not be around until the kittens are weaned. I'm so sorry for the loss of the kittens. They may have had a parasite infection or virus such as panleukopenia. Salmonella can also kill them quickly. Without a post mortem exam there is no way to know what they dried from. Mom will probably go back into heat fairly quickly so you might want to get her spayed. Monitor her mammary glands that they don't get engorged or painful. You can apply cool compresses to them if she will let you.

I just had something awful happen. Had a litter of kittens - one of them was isolating herself, showing some signs of fading kitten syndrome, but when I brought her back to her mother she seemed fine. She wasn't sucking this morning, so I fed her
I am so sorry. Unfortunately there is a reason for kittens being pushed away by mom, or being separated: They usually have some birth defect and nature is cruel. It would take away energy and strength from the other kittens if it was to be raised or needed extra care. So there is a very high possibility that this kitten had a serious defect and therefore did not make it. There is also a reason for cats having up to three litters a year: Kitten mortality is high, especially in "the wild", so they have up to 18 kittens/year to make sure some survive. Again, I am very sorry you lost this baby.

My momma cat had her 3rd litter of kittens. They are a month old. She had 6 babies and all of them have died but 2 and im about to loose one of them. I have tried warm milk in a dropper and its not working. What can i do. We have not had any problems
This is very unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear your momma cat has lost her kittens. I would suspect that there was something affecting the mother that infected the kittens in utero. There is probably not much you can do to save the 2 remaining kittens at this point. You may want to consider taking them to the vet to be checked out and see if it is something treatable. At home just continue doing your best by supplementing their feedings if necessary, stimulating them to potty if the momma is not, and keep them warm and dry. I hope this helps. We have 2 kittens that are 2 weeks old it started off with 5 but they have slowly been dying what do I do
Take them into the vet immediately. Newborn kittens are very fragile, and if they become ill, they will go downhill quickly. Only a vet can diagnose what is causing them to die, and if there is a way to prevent that. Best of luck.

Hi , I’m sorry about your loss. It is very saddening to hear all the kittens have died. I think if your dog hasn’t been near the other two kittens and unwillingly caused their death by playing with them, it could be that mum has killed them as felt the environment was not safe for the kittens anymore. Cats can get really frightened and protective with their kittens and failure to be able to provide protection could have led to your cat’s frustration and sadly causing death of the other kittens. It is just a supposition, you could also have your cat checked over at your Vets for any signs of illness that could have been transmitted to the kittens but it seems a strange coincidence or them to pass away shortly after the first one has without any symptom.

Hello, just this morning i asked a question about my 4 weeks oldkittens being cold and quiet after they were really good , unfortunately after taking them to the vet this morning they died one after another :( i feel really sad and guilty i keep blam
I am so sorry for the loss of your kittens. Unfortunately some kitties just don’t make it due to a condition called fading kitten syndrome. This can cause up to 30% of the litter to suddenly pass between 2-4 weeks of age due to an underlying genetic defect. This isn’t something that you would have likely been able to help your kitties with so don’t blame yourself. Again I am sorry for your loss and at least the kitties are not suffering. May time help heal your grief over the loss of your kitties. Take care.

How to save a premature born kitten? another kitten dead at pregnancy time.
Unfortunately this is really hard to do. You want to make sure the kitten is warm and body temperature never gets cold. I would recommend taking the kitten to a vet so they can show you how to place a feeding tube and start feeding a kitten milk supplement. It is very important that the kitten gets colostrum with in 24 hours. Colostrum has antibodies in it to help support the kitten.

Mu cat just gave birth to 7 kittens 2 days back however today one kitten is breathing but not moving at all, what should I do?
Some kittens get weak and cold which can become life threatening. You can carry the kitten in your pocket to keep it warm and hold it onto the mother to nurse if possible. In addition the kitten may have been born with a medical problem and is not going to survive. Make sure the others are warm and nursing. Some new mothers are not as good at taking care of kittens as others, especially that many. That is a big litter so you may need to supplement the kittens with kitten milk replacer if the mother doesn’t have enough milk for all of them.
