What food is best for a puppy with diarrhea and a sensitive stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 1 day old | 27 lbs

My 3 month old rottweiler puppy has had diarrhea since we got him at 8 weeks. We took him to the vet multiple times, got feces tests done and nothing showed up but they gave us an antidiarrheal flagyl and after he finished it he started with diarrhea again. Is it the food we are giving him ? We are giving him blue buffalo large puppy breed. I have seen mixed reviews on it. What is the best brand of puppy food for puppies with sensitive stomachs?

There are many causes for loose stool in puppies and in some cases the bowel is just slow to develop and adapt to the demands of a rapidly growing dog! My preferred option is royal canin gastrointestinal junor, which should be fed for at least 6 weeks to promote bowel development. Probiotics such as fortiflora can also be very effective and a fibre supplement such as profibre may be added alongside the kibble or wet food

I recommend to feed high quality brands with good safety records. I also recommend to avoid grain free diets, exotic protein sources and diets that contain peas or lentils. If Pluto is expected to be above 55lbs as an adult, he needs to ear a large breed puppy food. I recommend the brands Royal Canin and Purina ProPlan. The RC diet is often very good for dogs who have sensitive tummies because it is low residue and doesn't contain fillers. I hope this helps.
