hi i have a 4 and half yr old pit bull x male, he is a rescue dog. i have had him 3 years now and every year at this time he gets a cough/gag that lasts a few days to a couple of weeks. i usually take him to the vet gets an injection and all good., i am very broke this year and was wondering if i can do something for him at home to help with this? when not coughing he is perfectly normal and happy with no other issues. appetite drinking and peeing normal. no breathing issues besides the cough.

This could be allergy related and if so, Benadryl may help. See link below. Unfortunately there aren't any other great OTC meds to help with a cough. You can give Robitussin in small doses but since I do not know Rusty's medical history, I cannot say for sure whether it would be safe for him. I would call your vet and get the proper dose for him if the cough is excessive. If he isn't improving or worsens, I would try to get in to see your vet when you can. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/#!
