My senior dog was bitten. She's not eating or pooping. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 9.6 lbs

My dog was recently bitten on her stomach by another dog. She has a tumor on her stomach but it is benign and she was bitten right where it connects to her skin. I cleaned it up and wrapped it with a gauze wrap. She has been eating very little amounts of food has not had any bowel movements for almost two days. She is urinating normally and is drinking more water than usual. She sleeps a lot, but she still loves to play. Please help!! (ps she is fourteen years old)

Dog bites cause a lot of bruising and often they become infected. With your dog’s age I recommend veterinary treatment right away. Since she’s not eating much she may be developing a fever or be bruised and painful. Again dog bites can be very serious so I do recommend you take her for an exam and treatment soon.
