My two male cats are fighting after moving to a new home. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 5 months old | 20 lbs

We moved to a new house a few days ago, we have two male cats. I’m not positive how old and what they weigh. We lived in a smaller apartment before and moved to a big house. The two cats fight each other now. One cat exposed his stomach during a fight, but the other cat was still mad. Sometimes they meow in the middle of the night or day, the other cat growls and hisses at his adopted brother.. not sure what to do.

If it has only been a few days since moving into the new house, I would give them some time to adjust. It can take up to two weeks for animals to feel comfortable in a new home. If after another week they are not adjusting I would talk with your veterinarian about anxiety medication for them. I would also make sure both cats are getting a lot of attention, play time, have enough litter boxes and have places they feel comfortable in.
