My dog has a grey canine tooth. Is it a dental problem? What to do?

My dog has a half-grey canine... Is it bad ? What should I do with it? My dog is a husky-white shepherd mix, 4 years old. I dont brush his teeth but he regularly has bones and kongs to chew on.

Thank you for providing a picture of Shad's teeth! It looks like he has some tartar build up on that canine tooth, and I see his gums along his teeth are red. This is a sign of gingivitis. It looks like it's time for a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing. I would give his vet a call on Monday to set up an appointment to have this done within the next week or two. Hi, According to the pic I think it is a tartar built up. Too much plaque and tartar build-up can push the gums away from the teeth, exposing new areas for bacteria to develop which causes inflammation of the dog's gums (also seen in the picture the gum line seems inflamed). But it can also lead to cavities, infection, tissue destruction, tooth loss, and even pus (abscess) formation. So please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to see if your dog is a candidate for a dental scale and polish.

This does indeed look uncomfortable! Pictures can be deceiving but it appears there is significant loss of bone and gum tissue above the affected teeth, with tartar and infection build up. Referral to a specialist dentist for xrays to fully assess what is going on under the gum may provide more information but it is likely that extraction of 2 or 3 teeth and repair of the gum over this area will be required in order to eliminate the infection and prevent pain

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This does warrant a visit to your veterinarian as that color of the tooth suggests that the tooth may be dead and needs to be removed. I recommend that you have Luna evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look at this closely and decide what would be best. The canine tooth looks like it might have a little evidence of gingivitis but it can be difficult to tell from a picture. I also would not prescribe antibiotics for dental disease in most situations - if the tooth is infected removing it is the best treatment option. Even though the tooth probably will fall out there may be other diseased teeth since it can be difficult to evaluate the extent of disease without sedation - you may want to ask your vet about a dental cleaning or if your vet does not do this procedure see another vet.

My dog chipped an upper and lower canine teeth. Im unsure how to care for it and if i should bring him to the vet asap
I would recommend seeing a vet soon. although I wouldn't consider this an emergency. In your picture it looks like the pulp cavity may be affected, and if this is the case and you get to a vet right away a root canal might be an option. Otherwise extracting the tooth is probably recommended. If the pulp cavity is affected it can be painful, so you may want to see a vet for a prescription for a safe pain medication.

I brush Cleo's teeth a couple times a week and noticed 2 days ago that one of her canines is a brownish color (the whole tooth).
Good on you for brushing Cleo's teeth a couple of times a week! That is really awesome. Brushing the teeth is great, but there can still be tartar build up over time. Cleo could have also injured her tooth biting in something hard. I would have her seen by a vet for this tooth problem. She may benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing, and the vet can examine the tooth to determine why it is brown and how best to treat it. I would have her seen by a vet this week.

is there anything wrong with my dogs mouth? we dont have the money to go to the vet so if there is can you please let me know if theres anything else I can do.
Your dog is missing some of the upper incisor teeth. They probably fell out either due to trauma or infection; infection is most likely. There is nothing you can do for that now. But you can make sure the rest of her teeth stay healthy so she doesn't lose any more teeth. The ones I can see in the photo have a lot of tartar so I suggest you have your vet evaluate the teeth and schedule a dental cleaning. Hi there. It definitely looks like Hunter has some tartar accumulation and signs of early periodontal disease on his back teeth (premolars and molars), so I would recommend scheduling a dental cleaning with your veterinarian when you're able to :)

One of my puppy's teeth turned pink.
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Judging from the pictures, it appears that the tooth may have been traumatized. This may or may not have compromised the health of the tooth. I would recommend a dental cleaning to remove any tartar and also to get x-rays done of that particular tooth to see if there is any evidence the tooth is broken below the gingiva or if there is disease of the pulp chamber of the tooth. Thank you for providing such good pictures. It looks like Lars has broken part of his tooth and what you are seeing is the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity is the center of the tooth where the nerves and blood supply run. The problem with having the pulp cavity exposed is that the area will be painful, and bacteria can now get into the tooth. In order to prevent infection, either the tooth needs to be extracted or a root canal needs to be performed. If your vet doesn't perform these procedures, they can refer you to a veterinary dentist who does. But have your vet evaluate Lars and give you their recommendation. I would also recommend discussing Lars' chewing habits, so you can try to figure out what caused this, so he doesn't break any other teeth. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
