My dog has a red, painful, swollen breast after spay. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 27 lbs

Tofy was sterelised 3 days ago. She is not eating anything, Only yogurt. Her incision site is ok and not painful to touch but near the incision site there is swelled breast and it is red and painful to touch. I have attached photo. I'm giving her all the medicine that the vet have given me. She cries when I touch that red swelled up breast. She is also eating only yogurt. I will take her to vet but I want to know what could be the reason behind this.

There is definitely a severe inflammation going on in that area, i do not know if it is directly related to the spay, it could also be an impaction of the mammary gland if she was in late pregnancy before being spayed.
