Can I move my 19-year-old cat to a new home with another cat and dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

Hello. I have to take care of my family's two cats while they are away on business for 5 days. One of them, Soxx, is a 19 yr old male. The other, Maxine, is an adult female. I was wondering if I could take Soxx with me to Maxine's house, as I do not want to use excess gas traveling back and forth. There is also a dog living with Maxine, and he has met Soxx and respects him. The two cats have never met, though. Is there anything to be worried about?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Soxx. Being 19 years old, you are going to want to cause Soxx the least amount of stress as possible. If you choose to take him to the other home, then I would keep him separate from the other cat. Be sure to still provide him with plenty of attention and care. If he refuses to eat, then he may do better in his normal environment. I hope this information helps!
