My dog has a vulva infection. What antibiotics can I use to treat it?

My dog looks like she has a bacterial infection on her vulva. What antibiotic should I buy to treat this? Topics? Tablets? What brand is best?

Milice's vulva looks extremely swollen to me, and this could be more than an infection. It could be that she is suffering from vaginal hyperplasia. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, but I can tell you for certain you cannot get any antibiotics for dogs without seeing a vet. Antibiotics require a prescription, and that is not something we can legally do on this site. You will need to take her into a vet as soon as possible to have this examined, diagnosed, and treated. If she is suffering from vaginal hyperplasia, spaying her is recommend to prevent it from happening again. Best of luck.

The question is, is it an vaginal infection or a uterine infection? if she is lethargic, drinking a lot, seems bloated and in pain then it is most likely a pyometra (uterine infection), this will require urgent surgery to have the uterus removed as medical treatment fail to resolve this condition in the vast majority of cases. if she is suffering from a vaginal infection this can be treated with antibiotics prescribed by your vet. either way you will have to take her to a veterinarian ASAP.

Hi, two weeks ago, my dog just finished a course of antibiotics due to hematuria caused by urinary tract infection (proteus and ecoli). Her vulva is itchy, red and inflamed (pic). What should I do? Thanks for your advice.
From your picture, it looks like Val has what we commonly call a recessed vulva. That means that her vulva is tucked up and has a fold a skin around it. The problem with this is that the fold of skin can trap moisture and result in a yeast and/or bacterial overgrowth of that skin which is very itchy. So, I would recommend asking your vet about a topical treatment for the skin folds. We will often use medicated wipes that contain both an antibiotic and anti-fungal medication to help treat and prevent skin fold problems. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Yes, this looks like a bacterial infection of her vulva and this would require antibiotic treatment, If there is also a discharge from the vulva she also may have a uterine infection, therefore I suggest you take her to your veterinarian for an exam.

My pitbull Sandy's vagina is swollen and taw looks like some kind of infection. How do i treat this?
That looks pretty abnormal. I recommend Sandy be examined by the veterinarian. She likely needs either antibiotics or antifungal medications. This could be related to something like a bacterial infection, a yeast infection or a hormonal imbalance. She also needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any licking. Do be aware that sometimes a bladder infection can present this way as well. I hope they figure out the issue quickly.

My dogs vulva looks sore
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

Poor Sookie! If she has mastitis then she will need an oral antibiotic to treat. You can not purchase one without a prescription from a vet who does an examination. You could soak the area in a warm Epsom salt solution and have her examined by a vet as soon as possible. You could try to find an emergency clinic and have her seen tonight, especially if the lethargy becomes worse. Hope she feels better soon!

I agree with your veterinarians, there may have been an infection of the uterus which requires antibiotics. The swollen vulva could be a normal finding but in my opinion the vitality of the puppies should be checked by performing an ultrasound . Which could be a spot of inflammation which could possibly be due to an infection in the area. In case some discharge is present, a deeper and more serious infection could be there as well. Hello, & thanks for contacting Boop by Petco. Stomorgyl is a common antibiotic also known as metronidazole. It is unlikely that starting the antibiotic is the cause of Chloe's vulvar discharge. It may be just a coincidence & if this is an infection as well, the Sttomorgyl may help. So, do not stop the antibiotic, but do contact your veterinarian at your earliest convenience in case he wants to culture or do anything in addition for the discharge. I am sorry to hear about Lilo. It looks like she has a recessed vulva. This can predispose a dog to developing a urinary tract infection. If you have closely examined her vulva before and it did not look like this, I suppose it is possible she could have inflammation from licking resulting in swelling of the area but it is less likely. I would recommend having your vet examine the area in person to see if they feel this is a recessed vulva. Sometimes medicated wipes can be used to clean between the folds and prevent infection, but in cases of recurrent infection surgical alteration of the area can be helpful.
