My puppy bites too much when playing. How can I train him to stop?

Hello, my dogs name is Otis he is 7 months. He is a German shepard/ boxer mix. He is very playful and loveable but he bites to much when playing with myself or my kids. Not to hard but I would like tips on how to stop it

Otis is adorable! I would actually recommend a trainer for him. They will be able to work with you and him to stop this behavior. in the mean time when he starts to nip then I would recommend stopping all play until he has calmed down.     Taking away attention is probably the most useful. Stand up and walk away if he starts. If he chases you then pick him up without any conversation and put him in a quiet dark room by himself. Just for a few minutes while he calms down. Repetition is important. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

I would recommend actually hiring a trainer to come and evaluate Axel. They can work with you and him on how to either stop the behavior or redirect him so he does not bite people. Your veterinarian or people in your neighborhood will be the best place to go for a recommendation. I would also recommend a trainer that comes to your home. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Wanted to know how am i going to stop the nipping habit of Chicago, he keeps on nipping everything on his surrounding.
That is normal behavior for a puppy. I would have lots of toys around to keep him occupied and play with him a lot in the yard to get rid of the excess energy. If you can teach him to fetch that is a good game. I wouldn’t punish him since that may make this worse. Be patient once he’s done teething and grows up this behavior should stop. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Although puppies will want to chew and bite, this behavior should be corrected with a little training. Keeping your hands away (placing them behind your back or folded) when he tries to go for a play bite will help eliminate the behavior. Also, making sure he has plenty of tactile toys around he enjoys to chew on will help as well. Lastly, a German Shepard needs PLENTY of exercise, so I would make sure he gets walked at least once daily (more is better). All of these behavioral tips can help decrease and eliminate the biting behavior. I hope this helps!

Biting and mouthing is very normal behavior for a puppy this age - this is how puppies explore the world, and how they instinctively want to play. Boomer will grow out of this on his own as he gets older, but in the meantime, there are some things you can do to help. First, make sure that he has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush squeaky toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. He should also have a variety of different things to chew on, such as bully sticks, cow or pig ears, large rawhide chews, and puzzle toys like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. If you are playing with him and he bites you, just redirect him to one of his toys and use that to play with him instead. If he bites your hands when you pet him, calmly stop petting and ignore him until he calms down. You may only be able to pet him right now when he is sleepy and calm - thi

I recommend you take Nori to puppy obedience class and learn to work together. Also take him for walks or go into the yard to play fetch when he starts to get too wild or puppy biting. That will distract him and give him an appropriate way to interact with you without biting. To Nero this is probably just play behavior but with a larger dog nipping during play like this can become dangerous, especially as Nero grows. I would recommend avoiding this type of play with him at all times. If he does ever start to nip at your during play, stop playing immediately. If you are consistent with this he will learn that this type of behavior causes you to ignore him and he will stop doing it. My puppy always playbite with me. Is it normal? Or do I need to discipline him?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Playbiting, although cute when they are little, can lead to biting and 'mouthing' behaviour as an adult which is not OK. It is important to train this behaviour out of your puppy at a young age. It is best to make a sound like you are hurt when the puppy bites your hand or even gently puts their mouth on your hands, and then replace your hand with something that it is OK for Mayor to chew. This teaches Mayor that it hurts when he puts his mouth on any human, and that it is OK to chew, but only on approved items. It is important to be very consistent with this, and for all members of the family to do the same. Best of luck with Mayor.

Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Play biting is completely normal behavior for a puppy Max's age, and does not indicate he will become a biter when he's an adult. Puppies explore the world with their mouths, and think everything is a toy. However, you should be working with him to teach him that people are not chew toys, and biting when he is "angry" is more concerning. When he playfully bites at you or another person, try to redirect him to a toy that he is allowed to chew on. You might occasionally need to give him a stern "no!" when he bites, then offer him a fun toy to play with. If he's really getting riled up and keeps trying to bite at you (sometimes when we try to get them to quit play-biting they take it as a game), a few minutes of quiet time in his crate will help him calm down a little bit, then he can come out and try again. Pixel is 2 months old and he tries to bite us a lot. We know he is trying to play with us but sometimes it hurts. How to stop this? We have tried all the chew toys and sticks.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get Pixel teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that he tries to nibble at you, you say no and give him the toy. This is likely going to resolve the issue but it will take time to improve. Good luck and have a great day!
