My sensitive puppy vomited after new chew, loud stomach. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 29 days old | 30 lbs

I have a 13 week old GSD. He has a very sensitive gut. Previously treated for gastroenteritis at 8 1/2 weeks Today I tried a new chew (dehydrated back strap). He ate well this morning and I took the chew after 15 min (he did not break any off of it). This afternoon he vomited 3X partially digested food. He has REALLY loud bowel sounds (could be heard across the room). He has seemed extra tired since.. easily awoken but not his usual self.

Hello. I think that Loki is just one of those dogs that may always have a very sensitive digestive tract & you may always need to be careful what you feed, especially treats. More than likely he will be fine tomorrow but I would feed him a light, highly digestible meal this evening if he feels like eating. Mix 75% boiled rice & no more than 25% cooked chicken plus a little low fat cottage cheese or cooked egg if available. If Loki is still not feeling better tomorrow, it might be best to have him looked at. You do not want him to become dehydrated. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
