Is it safe for my healthy cat to eat urinary food with my other cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have 2 cats, a neutered male age 14 and a spayed female age 3. The female is recovering from an episode of cystitis brought on by crystals in her urine. The male is healthy per recent blood panels. The female was prescribed a urinary diet but I am finding it difficult to feed them separately. Will it harm the male to feed them both the urinary diet? The food is Science Diet’s Urinary SO formula.

Hill's (Science Diet) makes a prescription urinary s/d diet and a c/d diet. If it is SO, then it must a diet made by Royal Canin. Royal Canin S/O diet is OK to feed to all the cats as is Hill's c/d multicare diet. The s/d diet is probably OK if it is only going to be a short term diet.
