My aggressive dog bit my wife. Is euthanasia the only option?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 years and 3 months old | 65 lbs

We adopted our dog Daya. She's an 11 year old pitbull and she showed signs of being aggressive towards our other dogs. We found out she is very aggressive towards other dogs when she went after one of our other dogs and sent her to the emergency room. We did what we could and tried to seperate them and socialize them. We thought that Daya was doing better but today she did it again, and she bit my wife when she was trying to seperate them. I need help. I dont know if i should have her euthanized

You are facing a difficult decision. You need to consider your family’s safety first. Also the more you isolate Days the less enjoyable her life is. She can’t be placed with another family and you have done a good job trying to have her settle in but it has not worked. Unfortunately I do think having her humanely euthanized is the correct decision in this circumstance. While every life is precious we need to make tough decisions to protect others. She could cause life threatening injuries to you, your dogs and family or someone else and you would be liable since you’re aware of this aggressive behavior.
