My 7-month-old dog ate a deflated balloon. What should I do?

My 7 month old Pitbull ate a deflated balloon 24hr ago. She is pooping like normal though. 3 times last two hours.

That's not good that Daisy ate a balloon! It's good that she is pooping like normal, and there is a good chance this balloon will pass without problem. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass however, so continue to keep an eye on her. If she stops eating, starts vomiting, has diarrhea, stops passing feces, and/or becomes very lethargic, then I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

If the balloon was an average sized latex balloon I’d guess she’ll pass it without problems. If it was a larger balloon or mylar there might be more concern. If you see Boujee vomit or if her appetite is decreased I’d recommend contacting your vet.

Most swallowed objects, if they are going to pass through the GI tract without problems, will be pooped out in 2-3 days. On rare occasions, a foreign body may remain in the stomach for weeks or even months but this is very unusual. In most cases, as long as your puppy is eating and drinking normally and acting fine, you shouldn't need to worry.

I'd keep monitoring Bella for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, she doesn't poop at all, lethargy, or loss of appetite, then you will have to take her into a vet right away. This may pass without problem, but I can't say for sure.

Hi there. If it was a small piece of a plastic bag, it's likely that this will pass through her system without causing any harm. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, active, and not vomiting, it should be fine to just monitor her for now. Most things pass through within 2-3 days. If she stops wanting to eat, has repeated episodes of vomiting, or begins acting unusually lethargic, then I would recommend having her seen by your veterinarian for an exam and x-rays, as these can be signs of an intestinal blockage.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Balloons can either pass uneventfully, or can cause a blockage. Balloons are more likely to cause a blockage as they often fill with stuff in the stomach and then become a big ball, so we recommend getting to a vet ASAP to induce vomiting. If you can't get to a vet, monitor very very carefully and any signs of vomiting, not eating, painful abdomen, get to a vet right away as surgery might then be required. Best of luck with Enzo!

You will need to monitor him closely, if the vomiting continue or if he stops eating or becomes lethargic then it is likely he suffers from an obstruction and you will need to take him to the vet urgently.

Monitor her for any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. She will likely pass small bits if elastic or stuffing over the next few days if she ate any. See your veterinarian if she develops any of the above symptoms.

You can continue to watch her for any evidence of an obstruction which may be observed with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, inappetence and/or lethargy. If these are observed, have Rudi evaluated by a veterianrian for further assessment and treatment as these can be signs of an obstruction which may need therapy. In my experience, yes - it's likely that this will pass through with no problems, but there is always a chance that it may get stuck and cause an obstruction. Signs to watch for would be repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having bowel movements. Problems would usually occur within 2-3 days, so if he's still acting normal by then chances are good that everything is fine. If you have any concerns, you can always take him to your vet for x-rays to check for a possible blockage.
