My dog's eyes are green and swollen. Should I give him Benadryl?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 100 lbs

I think its just allergies but I have no idea. He’s got green goo around his eyes and one of them is swollen I think because hes been scratching at it. What should I do and should I give him Benadryl?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This could be allergies or it could be an eye infection. I would try Vetericyn Antimicrobial Ophthalmic Gel, which you can find at PetCo. Use this as directed on the bottle and if there is no improvement or the eyes worsen, I would recommend having Roscoe examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
