Why is my senior dog not eating and sick after boarding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Collie smooth-coated | Female | spayed | 15 years and 9 months old | 14 lbs

I have a 15 year old sheltie who has stop eating for almost two weeks. I gave her can food once and she ate that. She did eat two dental treats. She does pee and has loose stools. Her eyes look droopy. This started after being boarded for a week. Thoughts

Poor Nellie! Not eating for two weeks is a serious problem, so I would recommend taking her to the vet today. She should have a thorough physical exam as well as blood work or other testing if needed to help determine what's wrong. Some common possibilities in an older dog like this would be liver or kidney disease, thyroid problems, or even some type of cancer.

Bonnie is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe she is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe she is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking her to the vet as soon as possible in order to get him checked, if she doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with her.
