Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 lbs
I have a 13 week old mini apple head Chihuahua who i believe is having seizures. The first one i didn't witness. But they got more frequent recently. Her back end will go up, she gets unstable, slightly stiff and will shake. She doesnt shake violently, but enough to scare me. She's had one the past two days. I was just wondering if you know any causes as to why she's having them. I try to see what triggers them but i cant seem to figure it out..any help or information would be appreciated.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Dot. She will need to see her veterinarian to determine if she is truly having seizures and if so, the cause of them. Given her age and breed, I am concerned she is experiencing low blood sugar triggering the seizures. If this happens again before she can be seen, apply some Karo syrup to her gums. If this is the case, it should help. You also should have food available to her at all times. This can prevent episodes from happening if it is due to low blood sugar. I hope this information helps!

In small dogs a sudden drop in blood sugar can cause seizures. This often happens if they are sick or not eating well. Another cause is being an epileptic which her age fits will. This is seizures for an unknown reason. In rare instances, usually old, geriatric dogs, brain tumors are a possibility. There is blood work and imaging your vet can do to determine what his cause is and medications that can be used to decreased the frequency of seizures and the severity.
