My dog had a leg mass removed. What could it be while awaiting biopsy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

Yesterday she got spayed & also a mass/bump removed. The mass is being sent off next week to be tested. But until then, what could this have been? It has never bothered her nor has she ever bothered it, it was small & only grew a little bit since June 2017, it’s on her inner leg & the FNA came back as something of the same cell. Her blood work came back great as well

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possibilities include mast cell tumor, soft tissue sarcoma, plasmacytoma, carcinoma, something of a benign origin, among many others. It should be something similar or the same as the FNA. Ultimately, the biopsy is what actually provides the definitive diagnosis. Feel free to contact us back once the results are available and we can try to guide you going forward the best we can. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it is something benign. Good luck and have a great day!
