Puppy vomited wood chips and yellow bile but is energetic. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 18 days old

Hi! My 8 week old French Bulldog has vomited 4 times since early this morning. He initially vomited up what looks like pieces of bark or wood chip. The most recent time he just vomited what I assume is bile (yellowish liquid). He ate all his dinner last night (7pm) and was drinking plenty of water. His tummy was making loud noises through the night, and he didn't poo until about an hour ago, which was soft (but not liquid). He is still very energetic and playing and running.

Poor Walter! It could be that he ate something that upset his stomach, and the wood chips may be the culprit. Given that he is still very energetic, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if it helps. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
