My dog's spay incision has fluid and scab. Can I remove the e-collar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 months and 14 days old | 30 lbs

Hello. I had Chloe spayed 13 days ago and I just wanted to know if her incision looks normal? About 2 days ago some clear looking fluid came out of the part where you can see a scab now. Was that normal? Was that because she moved a little too much? I'm asking because tomorrow the 14 days are over and it's time to take off her E-collar. I just wanted to make sure her incision looks normal before I take it off because I don't want anything bad to happen.

Yes the fluid was probably from her being overly active. I would not remove the e-collar until the scab area has healed like the rest of the incision. You can take it off while you are with her and see if she licks it. Then put it back on for a few more days when you’re not able to monitor her. The incision has healed well except that small area and it should be fine in another few days. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Chloe.
