Why is my kitten's mouth open or tongue out? Is it a health issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | unneutered

My cats mouth won’t close all the way. He never has his mouth closed and he either has it open slightly or has his tongue out, I’ve only just taken notice of it but when I look back he’s always had it. He’s only 4months old, his sister doesn’t have this issue as you can see (black and white cat) . Is this normal? As it’s only slightly open. Thanks

It could just be normal for him but you should have a vet do an oral examination to make sure he doesn't have a dental problem and/or a problem with the his jaw. If your vet doesn't identify a problem and he is eating and drinking fine then it is probably just normal for him.
