My spayed senior dog is bleeding from her vagina. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 45 lbs

My approximate 10yr old spayed red heeler is lightly bleeding from her vagina. I've only had her for 14 months, she's not done this before since I've had her. Is this normal?

No this is not normal, a spayed female should not be bleeding at all, either she has not been spayed properly or maybe she is suffering from a urinary disease, i would recommend taking her to the vet in order to get it checked.

As she is unspayed you need to check if she is bleeding from her genital area, it could be normal, it depends how much is a lot. if it is not from there then it is definitively not normal and you need to take her to the vet urgently to get it checked and treated.
