My dog is shaking after neuter surgery. Is he in pain? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Fox Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 13 lbs

Hi there, I’ve just had my dog milo desexed yesterday. He’s woken up and eating, drinking and toileting as normal but he does shake every now and then, is that a sign of pain? He’s fine other wise and moving around. His gums are nice and pink. He’s not wimping. Is there something at home that I can do to help with pain. He received a pain injection yesterday whilst at surgery but I wasn’t given any pain meds to take home. Thanks Sarah

IT could indeed be due to pain, the pain injection lasts for 24 hours, usually vets do give pain killers to take home for a couple days, if you think he is in too much pain you can request those from your vet. there is nothing you can give it at home as human pain killers are toxic to dogs.
