Bravecto made my cat's fur sticky. Should I wash it off if he grooms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 11.6 lbs

I applied Bravecto to my cat topically for the first time today. He is fine so far, but his fur near the area where it was applied is very sticky and spiky. Do I need to wash it off? He is trying to groom himself by reaching up to that area with his paw and licking.

If you wash it off, then the product will not work on Van. It should have been applied to the back of his head to keep him getting at it, but you can put an Ecollar on him to prevent him from reaching the spot where it was applied. You can make one at home, and I will put a link below on how to do this. Once the product is dried, usually in 24-48 hours, you can remove his Ecollar. I hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffR-LzyW1M
