My dog ate licorice jelly beans. Is it toxic? What about xylitol?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Dog ate half a licorice jelly bean—-found in his mouth. Now he’s just laying around. Thinking he’s okay, but is licorice something to be concerned about?

Licorice would not be toxic to dogs, and as long as there was no xylitol in the jelly bean I think Pepe Le Pew should be fine. If you think there may have been xylitol in the jelly beans you should contact the Pet Poison Helpline to determine if it could be toxic. http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com
