My puppy has a soft, fluid-filled lump on his head. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 20 lbs

My 5 month old puppy has what seems to be a fluid filled sac on top of his head. It doesn't hurt him when I touch it and he has been playing and eating normal.

It could be that Tucker has a cyst on top of his head. I would give the vet a call to make an appointment to have this checked out. If he does have a cyst, the vet can drain it in a sterile manner, and may want to do surgery to remove the cyst sac to prevent it from reoccurring. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

This may be a cyst or a tumor, or a pimple (little abscess). You should have it examined by your veterinarian as tumors should be removed ASAP, especially if they are of a black color. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning. You can also watch it for a few days and see whether it goes away again. I don't think it is anything terribly worrisome.

My puppy has a bump on his shoulder. It feels kinda watery. I'm kinda worried about him. But he's not acting weird at all. What should I do?
It looks like a cyst possibly, i would recommend taking Tootsie to the vet in order to get it checked, the vet will take a small sample with the aid of a needle in order to confirm that this is indeed a cyst and not something else.

Poor puppy. : ( It sounds like your pet developed an abscess (bacterial infected pocket) on the top of her head. These are caused by trauma or punctures to the skin that introduced bacteria just underneath the skin, which in turn lead to pus encapsulated under the skin. She needs to have this abscess completely drained by your vet and placed on oral antibiotics for roughly 10 days. Her neck may be sore too because her lymph node is located in this area and it may be swollen because it is trying to drain this infected area. Take her in to the vet soon for treatment and she should be much improved within a few days, once she starts her antibiotics. Best wishes.

There's a bump on my dogs head that looks a bit like a pimple. It has been there for over a month. We assumed it was a pimple or something of that sort, but it seemed to be getting larger and redder. Could it be a tumour?
Yes, it is possible this bump on Toffee's head could be a tumor, but it could be benign or malignant. It could also be a cyst. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Toffee seen by a vet tomorrow to have the bump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated.

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! This appears to be a fluid filled cyst from the looks of it. These can come and go at times. Typically there is no concern with these other than the fact that they are unsightly for some pet owners. This is something that could be removed under sedation if you would like it removed.

dog has what looks like a cyst at bottom of ear. It looks soft, is shaped like a tulip bulb, is light and dark, and seems to have liquid inside. Any idea?
Check the bottom of this "cyst" for tiny legs. If there are legs, it is a fat tick which will fall off soon or which you should be able to easily remove. If you do not see legs this could be a cyst or a little tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. A cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

No puppies don't get fatty lumps like this overnight, so it's more likely a cyst or an abscess on Franko. A cyst and an abscess are not serious, but I would still have it checked out by a vet before his next round of vaccines. The vet can do a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options.

Hi, It's impossible to truly know exactly what it is without doing a fine needle aspirate of it. Although it could just be acne or a sebaceous cyst or ingrown hair. I would not worry about it. Have your vet take another look at the next appointment and see what they say. Hope this helps!

Many times these types of cysts will resolve on their own. You can use a medicated shampoo like Dechra DermaBenSs Shampoo that will help flush the follicle. However, if it gets big enough, it can sometimes get infected and need treatment from a vet. Try to avoid squeezing these cysts as you can cause some more damage. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pumpkin. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian if the bump is growing. A procedure known as a fine needle aspirate may be performed. The veterinarian will use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will tell if there is an infection under the skin such as an abscess, a benign growth, a build up for fluid or even skin cancer. Based on these results, treatment recommendations can be made.
